The purpose of this website is, first of all, to offer an alternative reading of launeddas, as musical instrument.

It is therefore indispensable to highlight the more technical aspects, as for instance: the origin of musical scales and their structural organization, the analysis of traditional repertoire and of its performers (with a special attention to the Ballu for launeddas and to Efisio Melis), the historical musical contest of launeddas, the problems related to the musical analysis or the forms, the problems in the score’s transcription and, finally, the study of launeddas’ technique from a point of view which privileges the composition aspects.

It is of relevant importance to define, moreover, the concept of form, intended as container of concepts, as it represents a further step toward the coding of composition stylistic methods, of the general structure and of the specific syntax of music for launeddas.

Not less important is to put a definitive order, through a semantic structure, on the definition of “launeddas”: When is it to be intended as plural? When singular? Its acceptation is of vital important in order to give with the most possible clearness all the shadings of its essence.

The portal is a work open to innovation, which therefore does not want to supplant the tradition of music and players of launeddas, but which, on the contrary, draws inspiration from it for interpreting the indispensable route which leads toward a natural intellectual progress, putting itself beside folklore in the journey of history.
